Skincare in your 30s
What to expect?
Years of hard-partying will manifest itself at this age with lines around the crows’ feet, the corrugator (between the brows) and perhaps even volume loss around the mouth and nasolabial folds.
Sun damage will also present at this stage if you’ve been careless.
Tips & tricks
“IPL laser treatment is an option to clear that underlying damage,” says Colman.
A home skin care routine should be well established and you can start introducing professional exfoliation peels and microdermabrasion.
Skincare in your 40s
What to expect?
“Inevitable ageing changes start to happen at this age, which means it’s all about working with what you’ve got,” says Colman.
Skin becomes thinner and less collagen and elastin are produced, resulting in creases around the forehead and eyes and volume loss around the jowls.
Facial muscles also affect wrinkle development, with repetitive movements such as smiling and frowning creating lines.
Tips & tricks
Regular microdermabrasion and IPL laser treatments work hard to clear the surface of the skin.
“There’s also the option of fillers for deep folds caused by collagen loss.”
Colman recommends the trio of “hydrating and plumping hyaluronic acid fillers, skin clearing IPL laser treatments and cell renewing retinol skin products.”
Skincare in your 50s
What to expect
“This age is all about maintenance. Colman advises, “You don’t want to do too much because the face has already lost a lot of volume, so just stick with maintenance procedures, fillers and good skin care practices.”
Oestrogen plays a part in the depletion of elastin and collagen production, meaning there will be a bigger loss in the menopausal years.
A decline in bone density also becomes apparent at this age around the jaw and eye area however Colman says that these, “obvious areas of volume loss can be maintained through fillers.”
