Gear up for success with these top tips for setting successful resolutions.\u00a0<\/p>\n
<\/a> <\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n 1.\u00a0<\/strong>BE SMART: <\/strong>A workable, successful resolution should involve the SMART principle.<\/p>\n S –\u00a0<\/strong>Specific<\/p>\n M –\u00a0<\/strong>Measurable<\/p>\n A –\u00a0<\/strong>Achievable<\/p>\n R –\u00a0<\/strong>Realistic<\/p>\n T –\u00a0<\/strong>Timely<\/p>\n \u201cSo, to be successful with your resolution you should be specific about what you\u2019re wanting to achieve, and make it measurable. You need to make sure that what you\u2019re trying to do is in fact achievable and realistic; and if you feel that the goal meets all these criteria, then set a timeframe to help keep you on track,\u201d says\u00a0exercise physiologist Naomi Ferstera.<\/p>\n \u201cGive yourself mini-goals within your goal. If you have 20kg to lose, set a goal for 5kg. It\u2019s incredibly motivating to tick these off along the way.\u201d<\/p>\n 2.\u00a0<\/strong>WRITE IT DOWN: <\/strong>Write all your achievements down in a little logbook to track your progress.<\/p>\n 3.\u00a0<\/strong>PHONE A FRIEND:<\/strong> Have a qualified individual on speed dial who can support you and hold you accountable to your goals. Choose somebody you can confide in, who\u2019ll get excited for your little victories and give you support when you\u2019ve strayed.<\/p>\n Even better, find a resolution \u2018buddy\u2019 to share the load. But again, choose wisely.<\/p>\n \u201cYou need to partner with people who will bring a positive mindset and share your determination,\u201d says Kusal Goonewardena, sports physiotherapist and founder of\u00a0Elite Akademy.<\/a><\/p>\n 4.\u00a0<\/strong>FIX YOUR ATTITUDE:<\/strong> What you don\u2019t want is for the resolution to feel like a burden that is controlling you. Remind yourself that you are calling the shots and try to keep your attitude as relaxed \u2013 yet focused \u2013 as possible.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s important to \u2018remain in choice\u2019 about your goal,\u201d says Irving. \u201cIf you set a goal and then tell yourself you \u2018have to\u2019 do it, you\u2019re undermining your own intention. Remain in choice\u00a0\u2013 that you\u2019re choosing to do whatever it is you\u2019ve agreed with yourself to do \u2013 and it won\u2019t begin to feel like a burden. You\u2019ve chosen it and you continue to choose it.\u201d<\/p>\n 5.\u00a0<\/strong>PICK A BEAT:<\/strong> Don\u2019t forget the soundtrack.<\/p>\n \u201cMake sure you\u2019ve got some motivation music,\u201d says Ferstera. \u201cWhen I feel like quitting, I think about all my goals and put on my \u2018pump up\u2019 music.
