\nMeditating has many health benefits but how can you be sure you\u2019re doing it right? Here are 7 tips to help you get the most out meditating.<\/p>\n

Power of meditation – Women’s Health and Fitness magazine<\/p>\n

Practise regularly: \u201cMeditation training is just like physical training; the more regularly you do it, the stronger you\u2019ll get,\u201d says clinical psychologist Dr Paula Watkins.<\/p>\n

Create a routine: \u201cFind a spot that fits well with your life and daily routine.\u201d Plan ahead to make it work for you.<\/p>\n

Commit: \u201cDiscipline is important but remember, discipline does not mean you need to sit for an hour. Discipline means that if you choose to sit for 10 minutes then you do indeed sit for 10 minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Quell urgency: If you feel a bit uncomfortable, stick with it. \u201cIt\u2019s important to accept that meditation won\u2019t always feel good. Our ever-changing physical, emotional and mind states means that our meditation practice will be different every day.\u201d That said, if it\u2019s physically intolerable, you may not have understood the technique correctly.<\/p>\n

Do it: Don\u2019t think there\u2019s no point meditating if you can\u2019t spare 20 minutes. \u201cIt\u2019s not an endurance test,\u201d says Dr Watkins.<\/p>\n

Meditate 24\/7: We\u2019re not talking sitting palms upwards at your desk, but infusing simple activities with mindfulness. \u201cThe kind of daily momentary things like making your food or doing the dishes and actually feeling the warmth of the water on your hand while you\u2019re doing it\u2026daily mindfulness activities of just noticing and being aware of your five senses,\u201d says Taylor. Next time you get road ragey while driving, focus on the colours and sounds around you. That way, \u201cYou\u2019re not getting wound up and generating cortisol and stress hormone and impacting on your immune system. You\u2019re not torturing your own mind.\u201d<\/p>\n

Review: Done correctly, meditation will quickly yield tangible results \u2013 particularly if you\u2019ve returned from a Vipassana course and are attempting to recreate the technique at home.
