How’s your blood pressure?
Why it matters: High blood pressure (hypertension) is a significant risk factor for stroke, and while it’s often thought to result from too many croque monsieurs or Krispy Kremes, there is a hereditary link that could put you in the high risk category.
If your genes have hypertension written all over them, your risk of developing the condition is up to three times higher than average.
To-do list: If Mum has, or has had, high blood pressure (normal is less than 120/80 and high is 140/90 or more), get yours checked by your GP. It takes two minutes, doesn’t hurt and could save your bacon.
