Ever feel like vomiting when you workout? Do your breasts hurt when you run? We find the answers to those embarrassing exercise niggles…
My knees crack when I do squats and lunges
When you do a squat your kneecap glides up and down within a groove. When it drifts outside that groove or isn’t gliding as smoothly across your femur (thigh bone) as it should, that’s when you’ll hear a cracking noise. You might have tight muscles in the lower back or outside thigh, poor quadricep strength, flat feet or knock-knees. If it’s bothering you, a physiotherapist or osteopath will be able to offer appropriate treatment.
I get an embarrassing itch after training
Your training gear is probably being washed in detergent with enzymes and then rinsed in cold water, leaving some detergent in the fabric. When you work out, the perspiration mixes with the residual detergent causing itching. While your trusty G-string might prevent daggy underwear lines, it turns out it’s not the best choice health-wise. In fact, g-strings are perfectly designed to move fecal bacteria to your vagina, which can lead to UTIs or vaginal bacterial infections. For the gym, rock a Bridget Jones-style brief.
My breasts hurt when I exercise
Breasts have no muscle so they rely on the skin and tiny internal structures called Cooper’s ligaments to provide support. According to a report from the Australian Institute of Sport, 56 per cent of women experience breast pain when exercising. A good sports bra is your best friend here; even women with B-cup breasts can bounce eight centimetres.
I feel like vomiting when I train
Even low intensity exercise can cause lactic acid production and if you’re unfit or have a sensitive gut, that can cause nausea and vomiting. As fitness increases this problem usually fixes itself.
