As one of Australia’s newest universities, Torrens offers a fresh, career-focused approach to higher education so you can start building a career you love.

A fit-career is all about what and who you know – and no one knows it better than Torrens. As part of Laureate International Universities, Torrens offers you a network of over one million students around the world, years of experience in education and abundant resources.

They are professionals in up-skilling and finding you the industry placements you need to be ahead of the pack.

“Our brand-new Diploma of Heath and Wellbeing course is available to all those who are passionate about the health and wellbeing of individuals, populations and communities,” says Torrens’ Head of Academic Studies, Louise Zylan.

“Non-communicable diseases are leading causes of disability in the Western world, with the likes of persistent pain, heart disease, diabetes, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), depression and obesity.

“Promoting movement, improving nutrition and increasing human function are key solutions to these problems, and this course provides an understanding of the fundamental principles of health and wellbeing to be a part of this solution.”

The course is offered online so you can achieve success (or hit the gym – just sayin’) in your own time. And with career opportunities in everything from community health and aged care health coordination to recreational fitness programs and activity coordination, there really is something for everyone.

“Research shows that active learning improves understanding and retention of information,” says Zylan.

“The Diploma of Health and Wellbeing is designed around the principles of the ‘flipped classroom’ – allowing you to learn through doing, not just through listening.”

So what can you expect from the course? We take a look at some of the exciting subjects you could be studying in the not-too-distant future.

Discover how the human body works

Learn exactly how your body works with the Body Systems and Disease subject. You will explore the interaction between the structural anatomy of the human body and key body systems, including the musculoskeletal, respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive and endocrine systems that help to maintain homeostasis. Plus, this subject covers the disease process that commonly affects the major systems of the body.

Uncover the importance of nutrition

You can’t out-train a bad diet and so the subject of Human Nutrition is vital to your success in the industry.

Providing you with fundamental nutrition knowledge, you will examine the relationship between food, nutrition and human health. You will learn about macro- and micro-nutrition, dietary guidelines, the role of nutrition in metabolism, health maintenance and disease, nutrient food sources and nutritional requirements throughout your lifespan.

Bliss out and study social health

The subject Social and Emotional Wellbeing is all about the zen. It covers the principles of social, emotional and psychological health as it specifically relates to behaviours and you will analyse the role of positive emotions in the promotion of wellbeing.
