Your anti-wrinkle plan

Sap. erase and diminish! Here's our guide to smoother and younger looking skin.

USE A RETINOID
According to the experts, retinoids can help smooth fine lines, fade sun spots and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Retinoids are a derivative of Vitamin A and can be found in many over-the-counter concentrates. If you’re after faster results, talk to your GP or dermatologist about a prescription-strength formula. These can be harsh so limit usage to a small drop.

VITAMIN C
Vitamin C can help protect the sun against free radical damage and is said to boost collagen. As we age, our skin’s collagen supplies decrease, and as a result our skin becomes less supple. But before you stock up on Vitamin C anti-ageing products, bear in mind that many contain ozidised vitamin C, which is not as effective as Vitamin C in its purest form.

EAT WELL
Boost your skin’s natural defence against ageing and sun damage by eating plenty of fruit and vegetables as well as good fats (such as those found in oily fish and avocado). Limit your intake of caffeine and alcohol and drink plenty of water. If you’re concerned about your anti-oxidant levels in your diet, include a spirulina or chlorella supplement.

SAY NO TO SUGAR
As well as interrupting the transport of vitamin C, sugar generates free radicals and can deplete your cells of essential nutrients. Sugar can also be listed as fructose corn syrup, sucrose, rice syrup and table sugar so always check the nutritional panel on your favourite products.

GLYCOLIC ACID
Used in moisturisers, peels and exfoliants, glycolic acid pushes through the damaged upper layers of skin and destroys the 'glue' which holds dead skin
to the surface. As this dead skin is ‘peeled off’, a water-based rinse destroys the remaining acid.
