VINIYOGA personalises a yoga practice to an individual - PICTURE - Women's Health & Fitness

Viniyoga refers to personalising a yoga practice to the individual. It takes into account the person’s age, injuries, posture, health, lifestyle, work commitments, responsibilities, etc. The teacher designs a practice that meets the needs of the student helping them progress towards a particular goal. It comes from the teachings of Krishnamacharya, a yoga master who taught many of the famous modern yoga teachers including BKS Iyengar, Pattabhi Jois, Desikachar (Krishnamacharya’s son), Srivatsa Ramaswami, Indra Devi, A.G. Mohan and Indra Mohan. Traditionally, yoga was always taught like this. It is only a modern invention to have group classes where everyone does the same practice together.
