5 ways to enhance your own sense of wellbeing

We asked health and lifestyle educator Melanie Hansen to share ways you can enhance your own wellbeing.

1. Surround yourself with people that are supportive and have a positive effect on you.

Auerbach says that stable relationships help us to step out into the world with greater confidence because we know there’s a safe base to return to. “Wellbeing improves greatly when we foster our close relationships and clear up any conflict or repeated negative cycles,” he says.

2. Adjust your mindset.
Our thoughts and beliefs mould the world we live in and this can be something that can make or break you.

3. Dedicate some time each week to self-care.
Take a yoga class, meditate, get a massage, hit the sauna, relax in the bath, take a beach walk or curl up with a good book. Whatever it is, Hansen says that self-care allows you to replenish, refuel and restore, making you feel – put simply – happy.

4. Try to control your stress.
This might be through yoga, meditation or deep breathing. Getting enough sleep and rest will also improve your mood and energy levels, restoring your body’s optimal functioning.

5. Eat SLOW foods: Seasonal, Local, Organic and Whole.
The food you eat keeps your body nourished. Hansen suggests keeping a food diary for a couple of weeks to list what you’re eating and how it makes you feel to stay in tune with what makes you feel energetic and well.

6. Consider bio-individuality.

What works for one person might not work for another, and what works for you now might not next year. The Information Age has given us access to a magnitude of information and trends, which can make it confusing to work out if a diet fad or health trend is viable and, most importantly, if it’s suitable for you. Try not to get confused by all the noise.
