An apple a day keeps the doctor away

Apples have a wonderful detoxifying ability. They are rich in pectin, which is a special form of fibre. This fibre can help lower cholesterol and eliminate bile acids from the intestines. It also helps to bind and eliminate dangerous heavy metals in the body such as aluminium, cadium, mercury and lead.

This simple and safe detox program, involves performing an apple fast for two days. Any healthy person can perform an apple fast, providing of course your doctor agrees. Eat only raw apples and consume as many varieties as you want. Eat them all day and night - as many as your heart desires. Crunch up the seeds too, as they provide valuable nutrients to help the detoxification process.

Prepare for your apple fast with fresh fruits and vegetables for your last meal prior to the fast. During the fast, take a high potency multi vitamin and mineral formula to provide general support. Also take 1000mg of vitamin C three times a day, to help keep energy levels stable.

On rising, drink a cup of boiled water with the juice of half a lemon and a teaspoon of honey. Eliminate all tea and coffee during the fast, but you may hav e as much mineral water (at least eight to 12 glasses) and herbal tea as you like. It is important to stay totally hydrated. This two-day system clear out is extremely dynamic, so you may experience a few unpleasant side effects as you proceed. This is simply a sign that the whole process is working beautifully.

The Epsom salts bath

Now, you have got to love a program that tells you to have a long relaxing bath! The Epsom salts bath will not only help eliminate toxins, but help you to relax as well. During the weekend (before bedtime) is best. Pour two cups of household grade Epsom salts into the bath and then lay back and relax for 20-30mins. Continually top up with warm water to keep you comfortable. Epsom salts are magnesium sulfate and have an ability to draw out excess sodium, phosphorous and nitrogenous wastes from the body. An Epsom salts bath can help disperse pressure in the body and restore balance - a great way to relax after a long hard week at work.

Skin brushing

Before you have your Epsom salts bath, grab a natural bristled brush from the chemist and literally brush your skin. Use long smooth strokes over the shoulders, arms and trunk in a downward motion and then work upward from your feet to the legs and hips. Brush until your skin has a healthy pink glow, two to five minutes is all you need. This will help to open your pores and release the toxins from your body.

Dr Lam says, "Exercise is not usually encouraged while fasting to conserve energy. It is also important to rest during a fast. A nap or two during the day is recommended. Less sleep will be needed at night since daytime activity is lower. During a fast, the body temperature usually falls. Blood pressure, pulse and respiration rates will also drop to reflect a slowdown of the body's metabolic rate. It is therefore important to stay warm. More rest is encouraged to yield better results, as energy can then be directed towards healing instead of other bodily functions." Time to hire your favourite movies and kick back on the couch while your body does all the work.
